FORMA Design: Mid-Atlantic Skin Surgery Institute, Waldorf, MD
High ceilings, sculptural bulkheads, sandblasted glass walls and the soothing murmur of a water-fall in the Reception area set up the tone the moment you step into this 5000 sf Dermatology Clinic. Located in an outer suburb of Washington DC, the practice intends to draw on the exurban crowd that normally travels into the city for treatment, while also appealing to patients from the urban center. The practice provides MOHS surgery and dermatological care as well as cosmetic procedures. Much of the layout was driven by the lab-intensive nature of the skin cancer surgery process. Access to lab functions from each operatory is an important functional requirement. The design capitalizes on the second-story corner location by using glass to blast daylight into the circulation paths and all the interior treatment rooms as well. From anywhere within the clinic, the views to the outside and the natural light throughout create an uplifting feeling. www.formaonline.com or FORMA Design on Facebook

Friend with colon cancer, post surgery, using colostomy bag?
We have a friend who is post surgery for colon cancer and is currently using a colostomy bag. We'd like to invite him and his wife, along with some other friends over for New Year's Eve.
I had thought to offer him the use of a private, full bath for any personal care needs he may have while at our house. I don't know anything about caring for colostomy issues, but want him to have a positive experience, while meeting his needs.
Does anyone have any suggestions, what to offer, or what NOT to do? I don't want to do anything to hurt his feelings. Again, I'm completely without experience in this arena, but want to do all I can to help him have a good time.
He will be 7-8 weeks post surgery by New Year's.
Why urologists don’t use laser instead of a knife for surgery of an enlarged prostate?
I believe, surgery with laser would be more precise, less painful and far less invasive. Also a cut made with laser would heal faster than one made with a knife. Also I believe there is less problem of scar tissue with a laser cut.
Can any one please enlighten me on this?
My dad is having colon cancer surgery next week. Problem is he has a leaky heart valve. Will he be ok. Safe?
I am just scared to death. I want to know if it is safe for him to have surgery and if he will make it

which is best surgery or radio frequency?
Hi my mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer in Dec 2007 and had her right kidney removed Jan 08, it was a stage 3 tumor and though they said it was very advanced they did not remove the lymph-nodes as they thought they were ok.
In Nov 08 her ct scan was clear and in March 09 they scan showed a spot on her liver which was 1.5cm, she had a MRI and they referred her back to the oncologist who told us the cancer had spread.
At present she is awaiting to see the surgeon in L'pool regarding having the left half of her liver removed, which we have been told is major op.
My mum is not sure if she wants the op, for a few reasons 1 because she feels removing half the liver will not cure the cancer and as they feel its probably spread through the blood or lymph-nodes and she feels it will only be matter of time before it reappears. 2 because she has been told its a minimum of a 3 month recovery.
Is it true that the cancer is likely to reappear even if the current spot is removed?
And does anyone know about radiofrequeny treatment as she is very keen to try that as compared to major sugery it only takes about a wks recovery.
Which has the best results, and if she had surery how long would the cancer stay away? Are we talking it could stay away years amd years, as the oncologest said kidney cancer is an aggesive cancer.

Gift for my aunt with breast cancer getting mastectomy surgery??
I want to send my aunt a gift after her mastectomy surgery. I live in NJ and she is in FL, so sadly I won't be there, so I want to just send her a little something to let her know I am thinking about her. I was thinking about either flowers or a plant, but I was trying to think of something a little different. Any ideas?
Infertility from Colon cancer surgery?
Is there anyone out there that has, knows someone or anything about complete loss of sperm production from having a 3 inch tumor removed from the colon? My husband had this surgery and after had no ejaculate at all. All the doctors have really told us is "maybe its nerve damage...we dont really know". There was NO discussion before hand that this complication was a possibility. So it was a complete shock to us when we discovered this. We have been to a fertility clinic and spent some serious cash trying to recover some sperm to have children. But everything has failed. We are left with this big Void never knowing if we will be able to have kids. Im looking for anyone else out there that may of gone through the same thing, or at least shed a little info on his condition.
Also, we have seen a urologist. Doctors have given us the impression that nerve damage is definitely a possibility. But only after the fact.
Also none of the doctors really seem to think its a big deal that its caused infertility. They treat it like its just a scratch and are like "oh well"
