what are your view on free health care and free education (college also)?

Do you think that it's a gateway to socialism or do you think it's a benefit for all of us? ( Keep in mind that all of us are not able , and we are all not blessed with the same advantages as the other) My brother's best friend has kidney cancer and his HMO dropped him, without it he can't afford Special chemo treatments.Most large countries like Canada, England,Cuba , and France have mostly free health care benefits(if not some kind of major assistance) and their prescriptions cost no more than $15.00, and more educated people would benefit the U.S. as a whole(it might even shrink the poverty numbers ,especially in the inner cities. Can't America do the same as those other countries and be successful?
And should people be left to die, because of the refusal of the more fortunate Americans to pay higher taxes?
Wouldn't you feel better knowing that some people didn't have to die, just to save a couple dollars in your pocket? Me , I wouldn't mind paying higher taxes if I'm doing something good. Because if that boy is really going through this issue ,think about how many more are suffering... I'm not trying to get pitty from anyone because I'm not the one that needs it, but this is a REAL issue.( the little boy is only 16yrs, Its just not fair)
